Post & Wire / Sprung Wire
Low-visibility tensioned wire systems for sensitive ledges and façades.
Post & Wire / Sprung Wire
Post and wire, also known as sprung wire or bird wire, creates an unstable landing zone using tensioned stainless wire supported above the protected surface.
Best suited to
Historic façades, premium elevations, parapets, balustrades, signs and visible architectural ledges where discretion matters.
Design notes
The number of rows, post height, wire spacing and fixing method should be designed around the target species, pressure and geometry.
UKBC view
Often preferred where visual impact must be minimal and the ledge is suited to a tensioned system.
316 marine-grade stainless steel by default.
UKBC specifies stainless-steel proofing systems as the default for long-term external installations. Galvanised alternatives can be considered where a client specification or budget requires them, but lifecycle, corrosion exposure and maintenance expectations should be assessed at survey stage.
