Understand the site before choosing the bird-control system.
Review the available drawings, site information and bird activity first. Where additional evidence is required, UKBC coordinates a site survey before finalising the specification.
What gets checked before a system is selected
Bird activity
Species, numbers, pressure, nesting, roosting, loafing and movement routes.
Building geometry
Ledges, voids, canopies, plant, façades, signs, solar arrays and neighbouring landing points.
Substrates
Stone, metal, glass, membrane, concrete, cladding and the allowable fixing strategy.
Access
Existing safe routes, podiums, towers, scaffolding, MEWPs, roof or rope access; permits, fall protection, rescue and operational restrictions.
Interfaces
Drainage, fire routes, ventilation, façade systems, plant maintenance and warranties.
Outcome
Exclusion, perch deterrent, behaviour change, cleaning, monitoring or a phased package.
A survey should turn into a usable scope.
- Marked-up areas and defined treatment extents
- Recommended system and material specification
- Access assumptions and constraints
- Budget or measured quantities where required
- Photographic survey record
- Risks, interfaces and maintenance considerations
